Information Services Philosophy -- Computer consultants and information technology employees often have a reputation of being condescending or even annoyed that people are asking for their help.  As a result, the people requesting IT services are sometimes hesitant or even defensive about their needs.

It shouldn't be that way.  I've always looked at IT as a support service.  Usually, IT departments and consultants don't generate income, therefore it is a support service, much like accounting or payroll.  For this reason, I actually prefer the term Information Services to Information Technology.  Though keeping up with current technology is important, I believe the emphasis should be on the service aspect, not the technology aspect.

This is especially important for small businesses and home users who need help with their computer services.  A consultant should help those people feel comfortable, not intimidate them.  I try to keep that in mind whenever I perform consulting jobs or work in information services.

Computer Consulting Credentials -- I have been a computer consultant for over twenty years.  I have worked on various operating systems, but specialize in the different flavors of Microsoft Windows and the application software running on that platform.  In addition to consulting, I have worked in the computer departments of several companies, most recently as Information Services Manager for a printing company with locations in four states.  Below is a list of my skills.  My résumé and references are available upon request.
