DaNte SpUmAnTe

On July 23, 2002, I had the opportunity to play a fill-in gig with DaNte SpUmAnTe at Herman's Hideaway.  The gig was a Tuesday night New Talent Showcase, and I found out at 8:00 PM on Monday that their regular guitarist would not be able to make the show.  Brad the Drummer was also playing fill-in with them, and suggested that they call me for the gig.

The challenge was to learn six original songs and then perform them on stage at Herman's less than 24 hours later.  I accepted, and went over to Brad's.  John and Theresa from DaNte SpUmAnTe came over and we worked through the songs quickly, then I went home and practiced them.  I practiced them again on my lunch hour the next day, then went to Herman's.  Jeff, the bass player, helped me out tremendously in guiding me through the songs, which had changed form since my practice tape had been made.  Brad, as always, played exceptionally well.

I think the gig went pretty well, though my perception is colored by the fact that I had a short time to prepare.  I'm sure DaNte SpUmAnTe wish they had had their regular guitarist that night, but they were also very grateful for the help on short notice.  I enjoyed playing with them, and I appreciate the opportunity.  If they are ever in the market for a new guitarist, or if they need me to fill in again some time, I hope they will keep me in mind.

Below are a few MP3s from the performance.  Please note that all songs are copyright John Jesitus.  Recorded on 7/23/2002 at Herman's Hideway in Denver, Colorado.
